The deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar was 30th June 2023. If you failed to link your PAN and Aadhaar by this deadline, your PAN would have become inoperative. An inoperative PAN means you cannot file ITR or claim returns. Moreover, you cannot open a Demat account, book time deposits with banks and NBFCs, or purchase mutual funds with an inoperative PAN. Even for high-value purchases made through online marketplaces or offline stores, you need to present active PAN details if the transaction amounts to Rs. 2 Lakhs or more.
You can tackle this issue by linking your PAN and Aadhaar at the earliest. Once you link these two documents, you can check the linkage status online/offline. This article covers 5 alternative ways of checking your PAN-Aadhaar link status.
